Season 1 Episode 04 - Cradle of Hope

When Gabrielle and Xena wake up one day they hear a strange noise coming from a nearby river, they go and see want it is and to there amazement they find a baby. They pick up the baby and make their way to a close village to try and find out who the mother is, but on the way they see a woman being hanged, Xena quickly goes to her aid and manages to save her life. Later on that evening Gabrielle finds out that the woman's name is Pandora, she is the granddaughter of the legendary Pandora with the box, but after the oringal box incident Pandora's family have always been cursed with the infamous box.

If they don't reseat the timer every 12 hours the box will open and hope will cease to exist. That was why she was nearly hanged earlier on. Gabrielle is amazed by the story but does not have much time to take it in as they still have a baby to take care of. So the following day Xena and Gabrielle go in search for the mother, they go to a tavern to see if they can get any information, but whilst they are there they get attacked. Xena manages to defend them all but the attackers get away with Pandora's box. Xena ask the innkeeper who the men are find out that there is a prophecy that the baby they have will won day it will rule the kingdom, the king felt threatened by this and is trying to find the baby so he can kill it. Xena decided to go to the castle to try and get the box back, she managed to get it while she was there she realised what the prophecy meant. King Gregor had recently lost both his child and wife in childbirth, and he would adopt this baby as his own so that when he grew up and the King died, he would have an air. Xena told the King who, after accepting the idea, realised that she was right. As for the box Pandora managed to recent the timer, but when Xena and Gabrielle left they room it was in Gabrielle accidentally knocked the box over and found out that the box was just a normal box, at that hop has been and will always be carried in each and everyone of us.
