Season 2 Episode 17 - The Execution

One of Gabrielle's friends, Meleager the Mighty, needs her help when he has been sentence to death for murdering a man. Gabrielle knows he didn't do it and breaks him out of jail. Xena, not sure about his innocence promises the village to get him back. When she manages to capture him Gabrielle pleads with her to let him go but then Meleager tells Gabrielle the truth about that night. He had been drinking and he can't remember what had happened all he remembered was what the sword looked like. Gabrielle hated him for lying and didn't care what Xena did to him, but Xena persuaded Gabrielle to give hi another chance as he would die the next day. On the way back to the village a man tried to execute Meleager but Xena saved his life and asked Meleager to take him to where he buried the sword. Meleager did and when she got there she know that Meleager didn't kill the man she did. She killed him self defence because he was trying to kill and innocent man. She went of to find him while Meleager and Gabrielle stay put, but it didn't take long before they were both captured and sent back to the village. After a short while Meleager was taken to the executioner and was about to be hanged, Gabrielle watch as one of her great friends died. Heartbroken Gabrielle mourned but knew that the village were about to execute her as well for helping him escape all she could to was wait. Then she saw Xena with Meleager, confused Xena explained that she managed to save Meleager life by standing under him when he was hanged. All three of them went to the judge who sentence Meleager, Judge Arbus. Judge Arbus was supposed to be a fair man but while Xena was out on hr travels she found out different and the three were going to make him admit it.
