Season 3 Episode 01 - The Furies

Ares goes to the Furies and asks them to make Xena mad and put a bounty on her head because she never avenged the death of her father. The Furies agree and make Xena mad, at first it is funny things but then her madness starts to get more serious. Gabrielle finds out what has happened and her and Xena go back to Amphipolis to see Xena's mother Cyrene. Gabrielle asks if she knows who killed Xena's father and Cyrene admits that she did, defending Xena when he tried to attack her when she was very young. Cyrene knows of a man who was in the same situation and Gabrielle goes to find him. Meanwhile Xena leaves Amphipolis and goes to kill herself because she knows other wise she will end up killing people. Just before she jumps of a cliff Xena sees Ares, who manages to persuade her to kill her mother in front of the Furies and end her madness. Xena gets her mother and takes her to the Furies temple, just before she kills her Gabrielle tries to warn her that the man who was in the same situation killed his mother and stayed mad because if the furies punished him for not avenging a death what are they going to do for killing his own mother, but Ares stops her. Xena doesn't kill her though because she tells the furies that her father isn't dead, Ares is her father. Gabrielle backs up her story by saying that Ares has been know to go to the wife of a warrior when their husband is at war, pretending to be their husband. Ares explains that Xena is crazy and that he is not her father. Xena proves he is by fighting him, as a mere mortal should not be able to beat the God of war. Xena wins and the furies give her, her sanity back. But is Ares really her father or not?
