The Wildlife of Star Wars

Designed as a naturalist's sketch book (with a genuine dewback hide cover) and featuring the meticulous illustrations of Star Wars' artist Terryl Whitlatch, The Wildlife of Star Wars is truly the definitive guide to the creatures of George Lucas's mega creation. With simple pen and ink, the artist captures the unusual anatomy, the extraordinary behavior, and the rainbow hues of the most interesting wildlife on Naboo, Hoth, Endor, and the other planets of Star Wars. Detailed field notes scrawled in the margins describe the mysterious graveyard of the banthas, the mating patterns of the prolific female shaaks, the skittish nature of the rontos, and how the eopies spit stomach contents when irritated. Thorough, precise, and totally entertaining, The Wildlife of Star Wars is the reference book to the nonsentient inhabitants of this galaxy. While the reader can't hear the booming thunder of the bantha stampede or smell the rancid breath of the bellowing falumpaset, he or she can observe these creatures as they exist in their strange and wonderful homes, in a galaxy far, far away.

Galactic Phrase Book & Travel Guide: Beeps, Bleats, Boskas, and Other Common

Adult/High School-Any Star Wars fan, any science-fiction aficionado, any artist, or anyone interested in movies will find perusing this volume of artwork intriguing and entertaining. It contains drawings; digitally mastered pictures; paintings; sketches; mock-ups; and models of scenes, buildings, costumes, characters, spacecraft, and creatures. Details and perspective make each illustration stand out from the page; the vivid use of red and black permeates the art. Alien life-forms, new and familiar, abound. A feeling of connection and continuity flows through the art as some scenes and characters that appear in this volume are either from Episode I or in the original trilogy. Comments from the artists appear along with the artwork and guide readers through the materials. Not all of the art was used in the film and it adds an interesting perspective to be able to recognize which ideas were used and which were put aside. The screenplay and a picture of the movie poster are also included.

The Journey of Luke Skywalker: An Analysis of Modern Myth and Symbol

Since the release of the first installation in 1977, the "Star Wars" saga has become an all-consuming passion bordering on a religion for millions worldwide. And it's not just the fun plotting, likable characters, cool props, and dazzling visual effects that keep fans begging for more. Behind the space dogfights and light-saber duels is a mythology that touches a chord in the human psyche. Galipeau, the executive director of the Coldwater Counseling Center in Studio City, CA, here offers a Jungian analysis of the four "Star Wars" flicks in terms of both characters and story. The book is essentially a blow-by-blow description of each film with liberal doses of dialog, followed by Galipeau's interpretation of what the characters' words and actions might mean on a deeper level. Discussing each episode on a separate basis allows readers to comprehend the psychological growth of each character, especially Luke, who is transformed from an inexperienced adolescent to a spiritually and mentally mature adult by the series' finale. As the prime audience for this book is geek fanboys who can recite these scripts in their sleep, the author spends too much time detailing each scene and ignores that film is a visual art, so many of the elements he attaches great significance to appear in the story simply because they look boffo on screen. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, and a Saturday afternoon movie is just a Saturday afternoon movie. Nonetheless, this title will be the basis of many Internet discussions not to mention term papers by fans who will enjoy it. Recommended. Michael Rogers, "Library Journal"
